Position Overview:

The Risk & Safety Manager plays a vital role in protecting and strengthening the Nicholas Family of Companies by proactively identifying, evaluating, and mitigating potential risks across a diverse portfolio of businesses. This position leads the development and execution of comprehensive risk management strategies that safeguard our people, property, and operations.

With exposure to multiple industries—including construction, hospitality, and recreation—the Risk & Safety Manager applies a broad understanding of industry-specific challenges to ensure compliance, minimize exposure, and foster a culture of safety and accountability.

Key responsibilities include conducting organizational risk assessments, leading safety education programs, implementing mitigation initiatives, and overseeing all insurance placements, including liability, property, builder’s risk, and workers’ compensation coverage.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, risk management, construction management, or related field—or equivalent professional experience

  • OSHA certification required; CPR/First Aid and AED certification preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in risk management, workplace safety, or related fields; experience in construction, hospitality, or recreation industries a plus

  • Demonstrated success in developing safety programs, conducting audits, and delivering employee training

  • Hands-on experience managing insurance coverage and claims, including general liability, workers’ compensation, and builder’s risk

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations and industry best practices

  • Excellent communication, coaching, and team leadership skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety reporting systems

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deliver, and track employee safety training programs, including work site safety, first aid, and ongoing in-service training

  • Maintain and annually update the company’s safety manuals to align with current regulatory requirements and best practices

  • Lead the company’s Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Program, ensuring equipment, training, and signage compliance across all work sites

  • Review third-party safety reports, address findings, and maintain accurate documentation

  • Manage employee OSHA certifications, ensuring all personnel remain current with required training

  • Maintain comprehensive records of loss control, safety inspections, and incident documentation

  • Oversee security systems, including the installation and maintenance of cameras and related hardware/software at construction sites

  • Conduct regular audits of facilities and work sites to ensure compliance and mitigate risks

  • Manage the distribution and maintenance of safety supplies, equipment, and signage across all locations

  • Lead company-wide safety initiatives that promote awareness, accountability, and preparedness

  • Coordinate with third-party safety consultants and regulatory agencies at the federal, state, and local levels

  • Investigate work site incidents in coordination with legal counsel and ensure proper documentation and follow-up

  • Manage company bonding requirements, coordinate bond requests, and ensure compliance across projects

  • Place and manage all insurance coverage, including builder’s risk, general liability, and workers’ compensation

  • Oversee transitions from builder’s risk to permanent coverage and manage annual insurance renewals across all companies

  • Collaborate with legal counsel to review contracts and loan documents, ensuring adequate insurance coverage

  • Review and manage vendor and subcontractor certificates of insurance (COIs), resolving deficiencies as needed

  • Partner with insurance brokers to request certificates of insurance (COIs) and evidence of insurance (EOIs)

  • Support marketing efforts by providing accurate insurance information for RFPs and RFQs

  • Complete and submit annual general liability and workers’ compensation audits with accuracy and timeliness
